Draw me a picture!

If you have a CAD program that you can import these jpegs into, then you can draw on top of the inserted jpegs as a guide to get a full size bug data base. (you will have to do some scaling) After you get the lines drawn on top of the jpeg, you can use them to make practice chops, channels and stretches. Have fun!

Lemke's Speed Secret

See what happens when you wind it to tight!

The Chop-O-Matic strikes again!

Here is a quick and dirty photo shop pic of our Peek Performance Funny Car body with the fenders whacked of by the Chop-O-Matic bug chopper. It's starting to look more like the SPEEDWAGEN logo. Now we need a FAST paint scheme to spice up the ride. http://www.peekperformance.com/index.htm

World of Speed

If you want to catch up with the latest reports from the World Of Speed hit on the attached link http://www.saltflats.com/

Experimental Intake System

Special Report: We were at a rat rod show and made contact with one of the leading cold air intake system designers. The porcelain coating reflects the high end quality of their product. I hope things pan out for this supplier.---O.K. enough stupid stuff for a while, more SPEEDWAGEN techie stuff coming soon.

Burly's Bug

This is the Burly Bug at Bonneville at the World of Speed. In an e-mail , Burly advised us that the VW Bug without some help from a wing, will get loose as a goose at about 130. Hopefully our comp coupe wing and skirts will keep us on the ground. Burly is the unofficial historian for VW's that run as land speed cars. ---How cool is this pic, a Hemi rooming next to a Bug---"that thing got a type 1 in it ?----

Hunt'in some MPH

This is Jim Linder look'in for some MPH for ole "1949". It was good to run across so many other old Indy West Siders. It was like a detention hall reunion. I'm glad to say that my old buddies have yet to "slow down".

Speedwagen "Flying Blue Toaster"

Wrenchette Ginny stages the "Flying Blue Toaster" at the fastest place on Earth. We are hoping for a new class next year for Cars shaped like kitchen appliances. Vintage streamlined appliances should compete in a separate class. The "Toaster" provided the Speedwagen crew with chauffeured rides to the Salt Flat Cafe daily. We finally found a coin operated car wash so we could get the Salt Crud off of the blue beauty! None of the other SUV's in town will know of the "Toasters" wild past as a Salt Flat Racing Appliance. ( don't tell, the warranty is still in effect)

Just a nice pic of a Wrenchette & ah Duece

This is at the edge of the flooded salt at "the end of the road" This Duece made a good farewell shot for a lot of picture takers on their way out of the flooded salt flats. How about that "FAST" windshield!

The End Of The Road--a start of an adventure

Well we made it to Bonneville to check out the 2006 World of Speed event. The picture above is at a place called the end of the road. It is where the pavement ends, and to get to the race course you have to drive out onto the salt flats. This is where the adventure begins. You follow orange cones that get you to the pits and the racing courses. There is a marked off area for spectator parking as well. An area for vendors and a grub trailer are also on hand. Once you step on to the salt for the first time you know this is a place to race, so J.W. and I had a brief jog on the salt. Now we can say we ran on the salt in 2006. The pits are filled with the manisfestation of many a day dream turned reality. This is where the Hot Rod spirit shows its best side--innovation, uniqueness, artistry and inspiration. And they are all looking to get a line in the written records of Bonneville. Its an amazing experience to travel so many miles to find a whole gang of people that seem like you already know them---and your in the middle of nowhere chasing a dream. The event was shortened by rain on Thur night, and the pits were covered in standing water Friday morning. Here is a link to a batch of pictures that Jim Linder and The Gasoline Alley gang put up for all to see.( http://s103.photobucket.com/albums/m128/bonneville06/ ). Well onward we go on our road to Bonneville and all the adventure along the way!

Subawagen push me FASTER

The SPEEDWAGEN has its proto type "PUSH ME" power source in position. This hybrid is the feared "Subawagen "power train assembly. My Cuz Don used to be my pusher when we had push carts as kids, I have offered him the job as push truck driver to keep him from the pain of being replaced by technology. Pay no attention to the stupid photo shop shifter, it is the bad habit I developed in 7th grade---draw a shifter on everything, and drink Pepsi with Ludlow.

Subaru meets VW

Miss Patty, swings the Subaru onto the VW tranny ala a Kennedy adaptor plate. The rig looks a lot more serious now. Our race motor is in the final stages of assembly. Our engine builder is Outback Motorsports Outback. They have the reputation for building some bad boy Buggies with Subaru Turbo engines, our naturally aspirated engine was a little different assignment for them. They had a couple of tricks up their sleeve for us. G engine class racing is picking up,GM hauled their 2.0 Echotec entourage to the Salt Flats and demolished a few class records (plus tumbling their HHR). ---Check out the new fangs on the Speedwagen, oooooh scary......
