We are getting an english wheel and a planishing hammer, so we can do some custom metal work on the various projects that are in the works. The picture above is an example of what happens when there are to many body tools around a shop. I have had Bacher (yellow shirt) tell me several times how this "what ever it is" was constructed. But I keep forgetting the formula.
(it really isn't a Tucker pick-up, just in case he tries to0 pull that one on you.)

What's your SPF good look'in ?
If you come to Bonneville, be smart like this babe and protect your lil' nose.
Being on the Salt Flats is like being on the ski slopes. You will need to butter up the bottom of your chin (or chins, as required) along with the bottom of your nose and ear lobes.
Our friend, Burly the Bug Racer, even recommends a long sleeve shirt.
Pith Helmets are also very vogue as well. The fashion police are very lenient on the Salt Flats.
Function over Fashion is the order of the day on the salt flats
SPF means STOP-PINK-FACE, so be wise!

Nose from France
This is the "NOSE" that we have been looking for!
All you old gasser fans will recognize it as a Fiat Topolino
This keeps a look that works with the VW body, but keeps our extended nose from becoming a "wing" at high speeds.
This part is an original steel part that is on loan from "Speedball Johnson". We are going to pull a glass copy from it.

Hot Dog!
We are excited about getting our wiring harness and EMS checked out today. We have a new Wageneer "Speedball Stailey" who is helping us with our "sparks". We kicked around the idea of putting some telemetry on the car, so the crew can monitor the run data from the pits. We have another group of Electrical Guru's at Ritron Inc, who can help with the data and voice communications. www.Ritron.com
Can I have a TOY!
Check out the toy dept. at Wally World late at night, and that's when you find BIG KIDS digging in the rack of Hot Wheel cars. You can't pass the little suckers up. For a buck or two you can have some fun. I saw this new Hot Wheel release on the http://www.volksrods.com/ forum. Looks like the cat is out of the baggie on how cool a VW can be. If you want to look at sum moe Hot Wheels, here is the link http://www.hotwheelscollectors.com/news/news.aspx?news_id=582

OUCH!
Cramming a different motor in the back of a bug can get painful!
We are doing some whittling on the SPEEDWAGEN to get the Subaru EJ20 under the engine cover and splash pan. Its not as extreme as this T-bird motor, but its snug.
The engine in the picture above is using an adaptor from Kennedy. This is the same supplier that made the adaptor for our Subaru to VW tranny combo.
Check out Kennedy for some crazy VW tranny to misc engine combinations.

putt-putt-putt-putt-putt-putt
This is the famous VW type 1 Horizontally opposed engine.Don't let it drip oil on your keyboard. This style engine goes by several descriptions. Boxers, Flat Engines and Pancake engines are the most common monikers'. The SUBARU engine is also a Boxer Style. The advantages for this style of engine work well for the SPEEDWAGEN. Do a little homework and see if you can figure out what advantages this style engine gives us.

Rim Ride'in
We are going to need a little more safety equipment than this driver has.
The rules have been changed to make the Bonneville cars safer.
The driver restraint and roll bar design specs appear to have been modified.

Take this Ralph!
Roll over Ralph Nadder. This 65 vair has been decorating the front of the shop this week.
We have a neighboring business that is a Corvair speciality shop. We also have several other speciality auto shops close by, and you never know whats going to show up. Come on by and check it out. (your motor doesn't have to be in the back)
