Stand up STRAIGHT

We have been fiddling with the rear suspension of the SPEEDWAGEN.When you lower the rear end of a VW IRS suspension, you get a lifetime supply of negative camber. So rather than have a "knock-kneed" set up, we flipped the trailing arms from side to side, and that gave us some positive camber, that was adjusted out by lowering the ride height some more. Flipping the trailing arms required us to cut off the shock mounts and reweld them on the opposite side of the trailing arms. J.W. made us some adjustable struts that take the place of the coil over shocks, these allow us to adjust the ride height as required. We have moved the "LIMBO POLE" quite a bit. The oil pan has found a new use, it is starting to look like a plow. I pulled the engine off so I could get a good pic of the modification. We will plug the race motor back onto the tranny and start the design of our scatter shield, and exhaust system.

Sparky "Trick Bag"

The Electrical Engineers that haunt the Speedwagen are on the prowl for another trick. Wageneers Stailey & Minnich are in cahoots to pull another trick out of their bag of surprises. Take a Stinger ECM (http://www.fuel-injection.com/), a lap top and a couple of Ritron (http://www.ritron.com/) Wireless data radios and you have the recipe for their trickery.--WHAT ARE THEY UP TO NOW!

Up in the AIR Jr. Bird Men

The SPEEDWAGEN Air Patrol never sleeps.

Since we took this pic, we have also hauled the oval body Skyward

This squadron of Fiberglass oddities is always on the look out for tall people.

If your over 6' tall, wear a hard hat or bring Excedrin.

I have several divits missing from my noggen from attacks by the "funny bug", so beware.

Speedwagen vs Speedwagon

Ransom Eli Olds in his Speed car following the advice from his wind tunnel experts
Logo from Speed Wagon the "TRUCK"
Speedwagon The "Band" http://www.speedwagon.com/
REO Speedwagon (the band) took its name from the REO Speed Wagon, a truck manufactured by the REO Motor Car Company . ("R.E.O." are initials of the company's founder, Ransom Eli Olds, who also founded the Oldsmobile division of General Motors.) The name was suggested to fellow bandmates by keyboard player Neal Doughty.
SPEEDWAGEN The "land speed racer"
SPEEDWAGEN (the racer) is an old English Bubbaized term that has its roots in the early formation of words with multiple syllables being alloyed together to form a acute melodic utterance that is often only interpretable by indigenous people. A more common example of this type of Bubba speak, is the phrase GETERDONE. Linguist Larry the cable guy examples how the slightest change of intonation can elicit a plethora of possible interpretations of the communication.
Now the important thing to learn from this is don't "blog" when you are having caffeine induced visions of grandeur.

Bugs & Burbans

The "Grateful Bug", our executive shop vehicle, has been caught making eyes at a visiting Suburban. This could make for some strange off spring. --Suburbagens?

STEP ON IT !

J.W. made the trip to Buggy Works today to pick up our Foot Controls. The parts shown above are from CNC. They are popular on off road Buggies. The throttle, brakes and clutch are all hydraulic. They will mount on an adjustable plate to allow for different driver positioning. The fact that they are hydraulic allows us to not only have adjustable positioning, but also keeps corrosion, dirt and binding from being a concern. The trade off is "leaks" and "bleeding". ---Next step is wireless RF controls---race by wire.
