There are 3 pillars to cut. They are referred to as the A, B & C Pillars.
Or Front-Middle & Rear.
For the 6" chop we are doing, we had to make sure we would not cut in an area that would not have a chance to be aligned when we put the cut away top back on the body. Our Chop is not a conventional one (as if there is a convention). 6" chops are a little to much for the show car crowd, because the car starts to look like a stomped on coke can. We need to beat the top as low as we can for aerodynamic purposes. We are not going to split the top into multiple corners, and add metal to fit. We will use two tops so we can lengthen as required, but the width will be left alone.
The sweet spot to reference the chop lines from is shown in the C pillar pic above
It's 34" back from the front edge of the B pillar and 7.5 " up from the straight body line on the car body. The cuts on the A pillar are shown in the other pic
check out http://www.runtrod.com/ for some good tech articles on top chopping.
Tex Smith has a book if your real serious about it.

Dueling Hondas
The Honda teams of "GOT RICE RACING" and "HONDATA" took turns this week setting new records for the G/GCC class. The old record that had stood for years at 152 is now in the hands of the HONDATA team. They even went on to demolish the fuel record also. This was the GM record from their blitz on the salt last year. Good Job!
Entry #2131

Wide Load
Well, not only is the car under construction--but the driving team is being conditioned for the task of fitting into the Kirkey butt bucket. During recent evaluations, it was discovered that Wageneer King had developed an interference fit between the back of his Bib's and the sides of the drivers seat. A strict regimen of "SLIM-FAST" has been put into place. And if my skills of observation are in tact---J.W. may have some fit issues to consider! (a delicate issue)

The latest report from the Salt-- IT'S STILL A GO
August 5th, 2007
SPEED WEEK IS STILL A GO!
The three courses we originally prepped for Speed Week are no longer available. Course # 1 is underwater with lots of potholes. Course # 2 is partially underwater, and course # 3 still looks somewhat usable.
Our advanced team of workers are very busy establishing 2 more courses on higher ground. We have found sufficient dry salt to accommodate our normal long and short courses.
Since we are basically starting over, we would appreciate your patience as there may be a need for changes to our original event schedule.
The weather forecast is promising, but there is always the possibility of more rain. Please check here for more updates as they become available.

Soggy Salt @ 8/4/07
It's a little soggy at the "end of the road" (WHERE THE PAVEMENT ONTO THE SALT STOPS)
The S.C.T.A, has a web page with updates on th condition of the Salt for racing.
http://www.scta-bni.org/SCTA-NewWeb/Bonneville/SpeedWeek_07/Salt_Update.html
There are three events a year to try to get a shot at dry salt--Aug, Sept, Oct
Aug is usualy the best bet, and the later it gets in the year the higher the chance for water on the course.
Keep an eye on the Weather in Wendover Utah for the conditions near the Bonneville Salt Flats.
If you have a "DRY DANCE"----do it now!
Here is a report from a friend--
There is a lot of water on the salt right now. There are some SCTA board members and they are waiting for more. They will make a decision sometime later today, from what I can tell, about whether Speed Week will happen or not. About 10 days ago right at the beginning of the 'monsoonal' blurp that went through....one really wet storm took a path across Reilly and right up the race course. There has since been additional storms in and around the salt. There has also been a lot of wind and heat too. Since we have a few more storms scheduled in the next couple days we are all just waiting.
