The Speedwagen Tow Rig has hauled more than Volkswagens. It also has hauled Iggie the Iguana, as shown in this copy righted picture from the childrens book "Iggies Big Adventure". Thats Jim at the wheel of his trusty pikumuptruck. If you like lizzards, you will want to read about Iggies big adventure!---a true story with a message of hope and faith. Written by Ginny Berry, and Illustrated by the Speedwagen Wrench.
VW with a Huffer
The Indiana Street Rod Association, and Linder Fuel Injection sponsored a Saturday Hot Dog's and Hot Rods show at Jim Linders shop on Gasoline Alley. This is a picture of Linders VolksRat creation. It has a cool little belt driven blower (judson I think). Notice the custom fence post prop rod---Man I love the "WEST SIDE", these cats Get-R-DID.

Road Trippin
The Team Speedwagen Tow rig has done it again! This time we traveled to the "Buckeye State" to swing a deal with Larry Lemke. He's another good guy we have hooked up with through the Samba web site. This time we scored a freshly restored "68" pan, and the fractured remnants of a Fiberglas chopped oval. The pick of the day was a metal engine cover with rusted holes from being shot with a 45 cal.---now that's some bad gangster bug stuff. That's the body in the back of the truck mounted in what we call the "Dead Bug" position. Hope I can get this big model car glued back together. We stopped at a Waffle House to get some grub, and I had the second worst bowl of Chili that was ever served to me. It was so bad I ate it all just to keep any body else from being hurt by it. The worst I ever found was at a National Truck stop in New Mexico years ago. That stuff was so bad that the different layers of grease and oil would not mix together. They must have had different specific gravity. What's that got to do with anything you might ask? Its my attempt to show the wide range of expert experience that is available at the SPEEDWAGEN!
New "Hind End" & Bug in the attic
The Funny Car body now resides in the rafters of the SPEEDWAGEN shop. Its hooked up to a winch so we can drop it down on the chassis with the little effort. We also have a new "hind end" to use for our chassis fabrication. A care package from Speedway Motors came this week. It had a load of goodies in it. I need to get it all dumped out, and show you a picture of all our new parts.

Funny Bug
Its been a busy week a the Speedwagen shop. We pulled in two Super Beetles, one roller, one striped out shell. Between the two, we can get our metal body started. In the mean time we did some "horse trading" for a fiberglass funny car body. We can use this body for fabrication of the chassis. Then the glass body will become a street/strip funny car. It will be cool to pull into a cruise-in with a bug funny car. Herbie with hood agugmentation surgery

VW in solidworks
The data base from the laser scan is in the computer. Here is the Solidworks file that it was converted to. Now we need to get hooked up with some CFD software so we can do the design studies of the drag coefficient of the body aerodynamics. Jim has been "crunch'in" some numbers to determine the drag, frontal area, gear ratio, tire diameter HP and RPM required to cut the mustard. Here are some good data sites for your reference Gear Ratio Calculator -Tire Size Calculator - tire & wheel plus sizing-calculation programs-aerodynamic drag
